The drawings for any new construction project is the central part of the complete development. The quality of the drawing sets influence the later stages of designing and modelling. A complete set of plans consists of floor plans, elevations, sections, details and so much more.
All of these form a detailed representation of the entire house or any other building in question. There are separate pages for each major trade, along with a site plan, floor plans, foundation plan, electrical plan, plumbing plan, framing plan. Architectural Construction Drawings are drawn using a set of conventions.
These conventions are comprised of the views, measurements, and scales, cross-referencing and annotations. These construction drawings are also called blueprints or working prints. Usually, basic construction information in the drawings and specifications on materials, installations etc. are done by the designers in the drawings.
IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS
- Scale drawings: All construction drawings need to be drawn to scale. The large blueprints or ”working drawings” are all drawn to a scale of 1/4” per foot. - Floor plans: These plans are from the POV where it is looked straight down on the floor, depicting the rooms, closets, kitchens, bathrooms, stairs etc.

- Details: Details are drawings of specific elements in the proposed building or house. These are mainly sectional drawings and are indicated on the floor plans with an arrow and letter label matching the elevation drawing.
IMPORTANCE OF ACCURACY AND PRECISION
- Accurate and precise drawings are an integral part of any construction because eye-balling measurements lead to problems in the materialization of construction.
- It is always good to set measurements because no two walls are perfectly perpendicular or parallel, so the design requires allowances for construction tolerances, especially when something that is factory produced and precise, is installed in a non-precise place like a field-built wall.
